Off with their heads present... The Royal Wedding Party

13:04 Apr 29 2011 The Islington Mill, Manchester

Description
The 29th April sees the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton... It's also a Royal Wedding... Should we be marching the streets in protestest? Demanding a revolution? Or should we celebrate the unity of two people who *love each other*... who just happen to come from priveliged families? Are you an Armchair Republican, a Closeted Royalist, or Revolutionary?

Back in 'the day', before X Factor, when Noel Edmonds was king of children's telly and we trusted our neighbours without suspicion... A time when we maybe fantastised about being a princess (or prince), unimaginative corporate sponsored specatacles were a think of the future and Environmentalism was just a pipe dream ... we had Street Parties; wonderful community celebrations to commemorate events that brought the nation's communities together, where friend and foe bonded over frivolous and unknown commonalities, food and drink- Like the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, or the Royal Wedding of 1981.

So the Islington Mill are doing just that. As part of their Off With Their Heads season of events, we're putting together a street party that questions the value of Royals, and weddings, pomp and cricumstance, and above all? Getting the community together to have a good old knees up! We're going to be serving a pot lunch tea party while we attempt to break a world record with the longest wedding train made out of knited plastic bags (it's true!), while soap boxers, makers, ranters, revellers and lovers come together to celebrate and comiserate the royal wedding and their diferences- there's a wedding karaoke and even a play about Princess Die (no pun intended) and culminating in a massive tug o' war between republicans and royalists!

Then the evening time sees the Royal Boat party join our team and it will degenerate into the early hours with multiple amazing DJ's, a wedding karaoke, wedding disco more perfromances and whoever knows what else.

F*ck Big Society- LONG LIVE COMMUNITY!

We're looking for stall holders, facilitators, tub thumpers, characters and helpers (or a mixture of all of these!). If you would like to have a stall, a make n do stand, make cakes, serve tea and help break a world record or just come and help out, then please contact Bpnspectacular@gmail.com by Friday 18th March
